For the first time in a while, there is no real consensus #1 pick for your fantasy baseball drafts in 2009. Choices include 3B Alex Rodriguez, 1B Albert Pujols, SS Hanley Ramirez, and OF Grady Sizemore. For me, even though I love Grady, I wouldn't draft him #1 overall.
Pujols:
+Despite elbow, proceeded to have a .462 OBP%
+Most consistent 1B in baseball, hitting .300/30/100 easily
+Never had any major injury troubles, except for the elbow worry
+In the prime of his career
-Doesn't steal many bases
-Elbow has not been operated on yet, leaving a cloud of doubt
Rodriguez
+Constant 30/30 threat
+Plays in a stacked lineup year in, year out
+Never had a bad season, one of the most consistent players in history
-Sometimes slumps, which can hurt H2H players
-Will be 34 this year
Hanley
+Plays SS, a very scarce position
+30/30 threat
+No injuries to report
+Is starting to walk more as he gets older, leading to more runs scored
-Doesn't play in a limeup with much protection
-Plays for the Marlins, who will eventually deal him after they can't afford him
If it's a keeper/dynasty league you play in, pick Hanley. Anything else, you can flip a coin, but A-Rod is better because of the 30/30 threat.
